Trend de Mi Chico: The Song, the Name and the Dance

"Trend de mi chico" is the Spanish-language way people search for the Mi Chico dance on TikTok, which has a discover page under that exact wording. The trend combines a song, a routine and, in the version Oakgen recreates, a specific way of filming a group. This page explains which song it is, why it has two credited versions, what the name means and which form of the dance the Mi Chico Dance template follows.

Song, name and format

01

The song

"Mi Chico" is a song by DJ Goja, released as a single on March 27, 2026, according to its Apple Music listing. A version with Jason Derulo and Melody followed later in 2026. On TikTok the crew video Oakgen follows uses the sound "Official Mi Chico", credited to Jason Derulo. Both names come up when people talk about the trend; they are versions of the same song, not two different songs.

02

What the name means

"Mi chico" is Spanish for "my boy" or "my guy", taken from the song's hook. "Trend de mi chico" mixes Spanish and English, the way the phrase appears on TikTok's discover page. English-language sites and AI template pages call the same thing the "Mi Chico dance" or "Mi Chico dance AI trend", and the hashtags people use include #michico and #dancechallenge. Oakgen uses the name Mi Chico Dance because that is what the trend is already called.

03

The routine

The routine is short and repeats with the music. In the crew video it includes two-step chest pumps, a crossed-arm sway, arms up followed by jabs, a boxer-style roll, and a finish with both hands on the head. People also post it solo or in pairs. The template does not teach the moves: it redraws a recorded performance with your photos, so you do not need to know the routine to make the video.

04

The crew format Oakgen follows

Oakgen's template follows one specific version: a TikTok by @jyt posted on September 26, 2026. Five friends lean over a phone lying on the ground, filmed looking up at them against the sky; one picks it up for a selfie and walks backwards; then the five dance the routine on a rooftop car park at sunset while the camera moves around them. It is one continuous take of about 17 seconds. Your video keeps that structure and the original sound, with your five photos as the dancers.

05

Why there is no solo version here

Because Oakgen's template is built on the five-person take, it needs exactly five photos. A one-person Mi Chico video would be a different recording with different framing, not this template with dancers missing. We have not built a solo or duo Mi Chico template, and we do not claim the five-photo version can be cut down.

06

What we do not know

We could not confirm who choreographed the routine or whether the phone-on-the-ground opening started with the @jyt video or was borrowed from an earlier post. Published figures about how many videos use the sound come from third parties and have not been checked, so none are quoted here. The preview on the trend page is the credited source video, not an Oakgen result.

    Cast the crew

Upload one clear photo for each of the five dancers. The leader picks up the phone and dances front and centre most of the time, so cast that role first.

  2. 02

    Review quality and price

Choose a quality and review the quote. It includes preparing all five photos and the complete video.

  3. 03

    Check every dancer

Watch the huddle faces, the selfie, and each dancer as the formation rotates before downloading your portrait MP4 with the original sound.

01

Five dancers, five photos

Each photo casts one member of the crew: their face, hair and outfit carry from the huddle over the phone, through the selfie walk-back, into the routine. Nobody from the original video is kept.

02

The whole take

One continuous 17-second shot: the worm's-eye huddle against the sky, the leader's selfie walking backwards, the phone going down and the full-crew routine on a rooftop car park as the sun sets and the lights come on.

03

The Mi Chico sound

The finished video keeps the source's audio, the Mi Chico sound the original crew danced to, so every chest pump, sway and hands-on-head finish stays on the beat.

04

An attributed source

The preview is the original @jyt crew video, credited and used as the motion and timing reference. It is not an Oakgen-generated result.

Questions & answers

What is the Mi Chico dance trend?

It is a group dance to the song "Mi Chico". In the crew version Oakgen recreates, five friends lean over a phone lying on the ground, one picks it up for a selfie and walks backwards, then the five dance the Mi Chico routine together on a rooftop car park. On TikTok it is also searched as "trend de mi chico".

Do I need five photos?

Yes. Every dancer in the video is redrawn from a photo, so the leader, blue beanie, black cap, sunglasses and graphic tee each need one: yourself and four friends. Fewer than five is not supported, because a dancer without a photo would have no one to become.

Which photo should be the leader?

The leader is the dancer in the patchwork jacket at the front of the opening huddle. They pick up the phone, film the selfie walking backwards and dance front and centre for most of the routine, so they are seen the most. Put the person the video is about in that slot.

What song is it?

"Mi Chico" is a song by DJ Goja, released in March 2026. The source clip uses the TikTok sound "Official Mi Chico", credited to Jason Derulo, from the later Jason Derulo and Melody version. Your video keeps the source's audio.

I saw cats and dogs doing this. Is it the same?

The animal clips are AI remakes that copied this crew's format after it was posted. Oakgen's Mi Chico Dance follows the original five-person crew and is made for photos of people.

How is it different from other Oakgen dance trends?

Gangnam Style Trio and Bulin 47 Squad are three-person routines, and Smalltown Boy Dance is a duo. Mi Chico Dance is the five-person one, with the phone huddle and selfie walk-back before the routine.

How long is the video?

About 17 seconds in portrait 9:16, from the first wave over the phone to the final whip-pan up to the sky.

Whose photos can I use?

Use photos of yourself or of people who agreed to be in the video, one person per photo. Do not upload photos of public figures or anyone who has not consented.

Is the preview generated by Oakgen?

No. It is the attributed source video by @jyt, shown for its moves, camera and timing. Your result is drawn from your five photos; review every face and the routine before sharing.

How much does it cost?

4,013 credits per 720p video. The quote includes preparing all five photos and the complete video. Check it before generating.
