Careers at Oakgen

Build tools that give creative people more control.

Three open disciplines

Design, backend engineering, and frontend engineering. Each role has a direct line to the product customers use.

How we work

High standards, plainly stated.

Oakgen is building a practical creative workspace around rapidly changing AI capabilities. The work calls for good judgment: knowing when to move quickly, when to slow down, and which details materially improve the product.

We value direct communication, careful execution, and ownership that continues after a feature ships. Strong opinions are welcome when they are paired with evidence, curiosity, and respect for the people doing the work.

Open roles

01

UI/UX Designer

Design creative workflows that make powerful image, video, audio, and AI tools feel understandable without reducing what professionals can control.

What you'll do

  • Own product flows from early problem framing through polished, implementation-ready design.
  • Turn complex model settings and generation states into clear, predictable interactions.
  • Create responsive systems that work across desktop and mobile, including empty, loading, error, and edge states.
  • Work closely with engineering to review implementation quality and make practical trade-offs without losing the core experience.

What we expect

  • A portfolio that shows strong interaction design, visual judgment, and the reasoning behind key decisions.
  • Confidence with information architecture, prototyping, design systems, accessibility, and responsive behavior.
  • An ability to simplify complicated workflows while preserving useful control for advanced users.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, thoughtful critique, and comfort working through ambiguity.

02

Backend Engineer

Build the reliable systems behind generation jobs, media processing, user assets, credits, billing events, and the services that connect Oakgen to model providers.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain APIs, background jobs, data models, and service integrations used by production workflows.
  • Improve reliability through idempotency, retries, observability, rate limiting, and careful failure handling.
  • Protect user data and paid usage with sound authorization, validation, and audit-friendly system design.
  • Investigate production issues across application, database, queue, and provider boundaries, then address the underlying cause.

What we expect

  • Strong experience building and operating backend systems used by real customers.
  • A practical command of APIs, databases, asynchronous processing, testing, and production observability.
  • Good security instincts and a disciplined approach to migrations, billing-sensitive code, and external integrations.
  • The ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly and take ownership from design through operation.

03

Frontend Engineer

Build fast, precise interfaces for creative work: state-heavy generation tools, responsive editors, media previews, and the product surfaces customers use every day.

What you'll do

  • Develop production interfaces in React and Next.js with close attention to interaction details and perceived speed.
  • Translate design intent into reusable components without flattening every experience into the same pattern.
  • Handle complex client state, uploads, progress, errors, and long-running generation workflows responsibly.
  • Improve accessibility, responsive behavior, rendering performance, and maintainability across the product.

What we expect

  • Strong React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS fundamentals, backed by shipped product work.
  • A careful eye for spacing, typography, motion, feedback states, and the details that make an interface trustworthy.
  • Experience diagnosing browser performance and structuring components and state for long-term maintainability.
  • A collaborative approach to design review, code review, testing, and production ownership.
