ElevenLabs Cost in 2026: Pricing, Limits and Cost per Minute

ElevenLabs costs $0 to $990 per month on self-serve plans: Free ($0), Starter ($6), Creator ($22, first month $11), Pro ($99), Scale ($299) and Business ($990). Enterprise is custom. Measured per minute of generated speech, ElevenLabs costs about $0.20 on Starter, falling to about $0.17 on Pro and above. On the API, text to speech costs $0.10 per 1,000 characters for Eleven v3 and Multilingual v2, and $0.05 for Flash and Turbo. What you actually pay per finished minute depends on retakes and unused credits, and the worksheet below works that out.

This guide covers plan prices, annual billing, API rates, per-product credit costs, limits, rollover and Pay As You Go. If you would rather produce voice alongside images, video and music, you can generate AI voice in Oakgen from the same workspace.

What changed / as of September 2026

We re-checked this guide against ElevenLabs' pricing page, API pricing page, text-to-speech docs and Pay As You Go docs on September 26, 2026. Plan prices and included credits are unchanged since our August 13 review. New in this update:

  • Annual-billing equivalents and a cost-per-included-minute column
  • API prices, which ElevenLabs bills in dollars, not credits
  • Credit costs for every ElevenLabs product, plus voice slots and concurrency by plan
  • Pay As You Go details: purchase caps without two-factor authentication, non-refundable top-ups, and a balance held in dollars
  • A cost comparison with ElevenLabs voices on Oakgen

Disclosure: Oakgen is our product. We include it because it is relevant to this workflow, but the comparison also covers where standalone tools may be better.

How Much Does ElevenLabs Cost? Plans, Annual Pricing and Cost per Minute

The table uses the monthly prices, included credits and approximate text-to-speech minutes shown on the official ElevenLabs pricing page. Annual billing costs ten monthly payments, so we show the per-month equivalent. The last column is our arithmetic: monthly price divided by included minutes.

PlanMonthly priceAnnual (per month)Credits per monthApprox. TTS minutesCost per included minuteListed extra minute
Free$0$010,000~10n/an/a
Starter$6$5.0030,000~30$0.20~$0.20
Creator$22 ($11 first month)$18.33121,000~121$0.18~$0.18
Pro$99$82.50600,000~600$0.165~$0.17
Scale$299$249.171,800,000~1,800$0.166~$0.17
Business$990$825.006,000,000~6,000$0.165~$0.17
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustomCustomCustomCustom

Two things stand out. First, the per-minute rate barely drops above Pro. Scale and Business cost more because of seats and higher limits, not cheaper minutes. Second, annual billing is the biggest discount on offer. On Creator it cuts the effective rate from $0.18 to about $0.15 per included minute. Treat the Creator first-month price as a one-off, not your run rate.

Voice slots, cloning and concurrency by plan

Credits aren't the only thing that changes between plans. These limits often force an upgrade before credits run out:

PlanCustom voice slotsProfessional Voice ClonesConcurrent requests
Free3None2
Starter10None3
Creator3015
Pro160110
Scale660315
Business2,2001025

Scale includes 3 seats and Business includes 10. Commercial use requires a paid plan. The pricing page lists Eleven v3 with 74 languages.

ElevenLabs API Cost: Billed in Dollars

The ElevenLabs API is priced differently from the app. The API pricing page bills usage in dollars per unit, and the rates are lower than the in-app rates:

API productPriceNotes
Eleven v3 text to speech$0.10 per 1K characters70+ languages, 5,000 characters per request
Multilingual v2 text to speech$0.10 per 1K characters29 languages, 10,000 characters per request
Flash / Turbo text to speech$0.05 per 1K charactersAbout 75ms model inference on Flash, excluding app and network latency (the older Turbo v2.5 is around 300ms); 32 languages, 40,000 characters per request
Eleven v3 Conversational$0.05 per 1K charactersAbout 280ms latency
Speech to text (Scribe v2)$0.22 per hour
Music$0.15 per minute
Sound effects$0.12 per minute
Voice Changer / Voice Isolator$0.12 per minute
Dubbing v1 / v2$0.33 / $2.20 per minute

The same page lists how many Eleven v3 characters each plan covers through the API: 10,000 on Free, 60,000 on Starter, 220,000 on Creator, 990,000 on Pro, 2.99 million on Scale and 9.9 million on Business. Using ElevenLabs' own plan math (10,000 credits is about 10 minutes, so roughly 1,000 characters per minute), v3 on the API works out to about $0.10 per minute, and Flash or Turbo to about $0.05.

Who This Cost Guide Is For

This guide is for creators, podcast teams, course producers, agencies, and developers asking one of three practical questions:

  • How many finished narration minutes will my plan actually cover?
  • What happens when a project needs retakes?
  • Is a dedicated voice subscription sensible when I also pay for image and video tools?

If you only need occasional narration, start with measured usage rather than the most attractive feature list. If voice cloning is the job, compare the required cloning feature and commercial rights before comparing credits. If you make complete videos, evaluate the cost of the whole production stack, not TTS in isolation.

For model quality and workflow differences, use our complete AI voice cloning and text-to-speech guide. For lower-cost options, see the free ElevenLabs alternatives that actually work.

How ElevenLabs Credits Work

ElevenLabs credits are a shared usage unit in the app. The same pool is spent across text to speech, speech to text, music, sound effects, voice tools and dubbing, so every product draws from what's left for narration. The pricing page lists these rates:

Product (app)Credit cost
Text to speech1 credit per character
Speech to text330 credits per minute
Eleven Music900 credits per minute
Sound effects200 credits per generation
Voice Changer and Voice Isolator1,000 credits per minute
Dubbing2,000, 3,000, 5,000 or 10,000 credits per minute, depending on the option

Seen in credits, a Creator plan's 121,000 credits cover about 121 minutes of narration, or about 134 minutes of music, or about 60 minutes of the cheapest dubbing option. Mixing products eats into your narration budget quickly.

For text to speech, the rate also depends on the model. The official credit guide says Flash and Turbo use discounted rates on self-serve plans. The pricing page puts Flash and Turbo API usage at 0.5 to 1 credit per character, and Multilingual v2 at 1 credit per character. The text-to-speech documentation lists Eleven v3 at one credit per character in the web app.

This is where fixed "characters equal minutes" rules break. Two scripts with the same character count can have different audio duration because of punctuation, delivery speed, language, pauses, and voice settings. A calm audiobook read and a fast social ad are not interchangeable.

The safest planning method is to generate one representative sample and measure the relationship yourself.

The ElevenLabs Cost-per-Minute Worksheet

This worksheet is the reusable asset. Copy it into a spreadsheet and replace every example input with your own measured number.

InputSymbolHow to Measure
Characters in one final scriptCCount spaces and punctuation exactly as ElevenLabs does in the generation screen
Credits charged for that scriptGRecord the estimate shown before generating or the usage shown afterward
Accepted audio minutesMMeasure only the audio you would publish, not discarded takes
Finished pieces per monthNUse your actual publishing schedule
Generation attempts per accepted pieceATotal paid attempts divided by finished pieces
Monthly subscription pricePUse recurring price, excluding a temporary first-month discount
PAYG top-ups in the monthTInclude manual and automatic top-ups actually charged

Now calculate:

  1. Credits per accepted piece: G x A
  2. Monthly credits required: G x A x N
  3. Accepted minutes per month: M x N
  4. Cash spent that month: P + T
  5. Effective cost per accepted minute: (P + T) / (M x N)
  6. Credit utilization: monthly credits required / included monthly credits

The revision multiplier A is the missing line in most pricing comparisons. If you generate three paid takes and publish one, your production cost is not the advertised first-pass rate. It is the cost of all three generations divided by the minutes you accepted.

Use measured attempts, not a universal waste rate

Do not borrow somebody else's claim that AI voice requires a fixed percentage of retakes. Track one real month. Your rate depends on script cleanup, pronunciation work, voice choice, and how strict your quality bar is.

Once you know G, M, and A, the right tier becomes a capacity decision rather than a guess. If your workload crosses image, video, voice, and music, compare that dedicated cost with Oakgen's shared creative plans and keep the worksheet focused on finished deliverables.

A Worked Example Without Fake Universal Pricing

Suppose a channel publishes eight narrated videos per month. Its representative script produces 12 accepted minutes, and the account shows 10,800 credits for the selected model and voice. During the measured month, the team averages 1.25 paid attempts for every accepted narration.

  • Credits per accepted video: 10,800 x 1.25 = 13,500
  • Monthly credits required: 13,500 x 8 = 108,000
  • Accepted minutes: 12 x 8 = 96

That workload fits inside the current 121,000-credit Creator allowance on paper. But it leaves only 13,000 credits for pronunciation fixes, experiments, music, sound effects, or other ElevenLabs products. A single unusual project could push the account into PAYG use.

This example is not a claim that every 12-minute narration costs 10,800 credits. It demonstrates the method. Use the credit preview for your chosen model, voice, and script.

ElevenLabs Limits That Change the Real Cost

Generation is charged before download

ElevenLabs says credits are charged when you generate, not when you download. A preview that you reject can still count as usage.

The TTS documentation says up to two free regenerations may be available when the content and qualifying parameters remain unchanged. If you edit the script, swap the voice, or change a parameter outside the free-regeneration conditions, expect another paid generation. Check the label shown before clicking generate.

Input length varies by model and access path

ElevenLabs' current model documentation lists a 5,000-character limit for Eleven v3, 10,000 for Multilingual v2, and 40,000 for Flash v2.5. Long-form work should be chunked carefully or produced in Studio so pauses and prosody remain coherent.

Large input capacity does not remove the need for review. Generate chapters or logical sections, verify names and numbers, then join the approved files. One bad pronunciation is cheaper to fix in a section than in an entire hour-long narration.

Commercial usage begins on paid plans

The official pricing page lists a commercial license on Starter, and the TTS documentation says commercial use requires a paid plan. If the audio will monetize a channel, sell a course, run in an ad, or ship in client work, do not budget around Free without checking the applicable terms.

The credit pool is shared

Spending credits on dubbing, music, or other tools reduces the pool available for narration. Keep a separate worksheet row for each product if the account does more than TTS.

Rollover, Pay As You Go, and Surprise-Spend Controls

Paid subscription credits can roll over up to twice the normal monthly quota while you remain on the same plan. After the next allocation arrives, the maximum subscription balance can therefore reach three times the regular quota. Free-plan credits do not roll over.

According to the official rollover guide, canceling or downgrading causes unused subscription credits to be lost when the change takes effect. PAYG funds are handled separately.

For new self-serve customers, Pay As You Go replaces legacy usage-based billing. The PAYG documentation says:

  • subscription credits are used before PAYG funds
  • top-ups are prepaid, not postpaid overages
  • the minimum top-up is $5 USD or INR 500, with up to 250 top-ups per month
  • top-ups are non-refundable and expire 12 months after purchase
  • your PAYG balance is held in dollars and converted at your plan's credit rate when you spend it, so the same $20 buys more on a higher plan
  • without two-factor authentication, monthly purchases are capped: $100 on Free, Starter and Creator, $200 on Pro, $600 on Scale and $2,000 on Business
  • Auto Top Up defaults to a $20 top-up when the balance falls to $10
  • an optional monthly spend cap exists but is off by default
  • service pauses when the balance reaches zero and no top-up succeeds
  • a Free account using PAYG gets Starter-level concurrency (3 requests)

Turn on two-factor authentication before a big project if you expect to top up more than your cap. Otherwise a deadline week can stall at the limit.

Legacy usage-based billing remains for eligible existing subscriptions and Enterprise contracts. Do not copy an old overage rate from a 2024 or 2025 blog into a 2026 budget. Open your subscription screen and use the rate shown for your account.

ElevenLabs remains a sensible specialist choice when voice is the product and you need its specific models, cloning workflow, or API. Oakgen is the better fit when voice is one layer in a finished campaign. You can test narration in Oakgen Audio, build visuals with the same project context, and move into video without adding another disconnected production system.

ElevenLabs Cost vs ElevenLabs Voices on Oakgen

Oakgen runs ElevenLabs text-to-speech models through its own credit system, alongside Google, OpenAI and MiniMax voices. From Oakgen's model configuration as of September 26, 2026 (1 USD = 260 credits):

ModelElevenLabs APIOakgen10,000 characters (about 10 minutes)
Eleven v3$0.10 per 1K characters26 credits per 1K characters$1.00 on the API; 260 credits on Oakgen
Multilingual v2$0.10 per 1K characters26 credits per 1K characters$1.00 on the API; 260 credits on Oakgen
Turbo v2.5$0.05 per 1K characters13 credits per 1K characters$0.50 on the API; 130 credits on Oakgen

At the base conversion, Oakgen's per-character price matches ElevenLabs' API rate. So the choice isn't about a cheaper voice. It comes down to workflow:

  • Pick ElevenLabs directly if voice is the product, or if you need Professional Voice Clones, the voice library, dubbing, Studio, or the full API with its concurrency limits.
  • Pick Oakgen if narration is one step in a video, ad or social workflow and you'd rather spend one credit balance on voice, images, video and music than add a voice subscription on top of other tools.

See Oakgen vs ElevenLabs for the full feature comparison, or the ElevenLabs alternatives page if price is your main concern. For an open-source route with no per-character fee, our Chatterbox TTS review covers the trade-offs of self-hosting.

Common ElevenLabs Pricing Mistakes

Dividing price by advertised minutes

Advertised minutes are an estimate. Accepted minutes are the real denominator. Include paid retakes and the time you actually ship.

Counting words instead of the displayed credit estimate

Punctuation, spaces, model choice, and access path matter. Use the estimate shown in the product rather than a generic words-to-minutes converter.

Treating a promotion as the recurring price

A first-month discount lowers acquisition cost, not the normal monthly run rate. Model both values separately.

Ignoring other products in the shared pool

If the same account generates music or dubbing, those credits are unavailable for TTS. Give each workflow a budget line.

Buying a larger tier before measuring revision waste

Script cleanup and pronunciation notes can reduce retakes more effectively than buying credits. Fix the workflow before scaling the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does ElevenLabs cost per month?

As of September 26, 2026, ElevenLabs lists Free at $0, Starter at $6, Creator at $22 (first month $11), Pro at $99, Scale at $299 and Business at $990 per month. Annual billing costs ten times the monthly price, so Creator works out to about $18.33 per month. Enterprise pricing is custom, and prices exclude taxes.

How much does ElevenLabs cost per minute?

Divide the plan price by its included minutes and you get about $0.20 per minute on Starter, $0.18 on Creator and about $0.17 on Pro, Scale and Business. ElevenLabs lists extra UI minutes at those same rates. Your real cost per accepted minute is higher if you regenerate audio.

How much does the ElevenLabs API cost?

ElevenLabs bills API usage in dollars. Eleven v3 and Multilingual v2 text-to-speech cost $0.10 per 1,000 characters, and Flash and Turbo cost $0.05 per 1,000 characters. Speech to text with Scribe v2 costs $0.22 per hour of audio.

How do ElevenLabs credits work?

In the ElevenLabs app, one credit pool is shared across products. Text to speech uses 1 credit per character, speech to text 330 credits per minute, music 900 credits per minute, sound effects 200 credits per generation, and dubbing 2,000 to 10,000 credits per minute depending on the option.

Do unused ElevenLabs credits roll over?

Paid subscription credits can roll over up to twice the normal monthly quota while you stay on the same plan, for a maximum balance of three times the usual quota. Free credits do not roll over, and downgrading or cancelling forfeits unused subscription credits.

What happens when I run out of ElevenLabs credits?

New self-serve customers can use prepaid Pay As You Go funds once subscription credits run out. The minimum top-up is $5, top-ups are non-refundable and expire after 12 months, and generation pauses when the balance hits zero. Without two-factor authentication, monthly top-ups are capped, starting at $100 on Free, Starter and Creator.

Does ElevenLabs charge for regenerating audio?

ElevenLabs charges when audio is generated, not when it is downloaded. Its text-to-speech documentation says up to two free regenerations may be available when the content and qualifying settings stay the same. Edited scripts normally use credits again.

Which ElevenLabs plan should a creator choose?

Measure one representative script, include your real regeneration rate, and pick the lowest plan whose monthly credits cover that workload. Consider Oakgen instead when voice is one part of a workflow that also needs images, video and music.
