Check Your Beer Spill Kick Video, Second by Second

Your Beer Spill Kick video is back. This guide is for checking it, not making it: what to look at in each stretch of the 12 seconds, which photo choice can sit behind a flaw, and the one change to try next. The clip moves from a high aerial view to close shots in the stand with fast pans in between, and those pans are where faces and the ball slip. How to make it in the first place is in the how-to guide.

Make or re-run your Beer Spill Kick

Open the trend, swap the photo that needs it and generate the full 12-second clip again.

Create this trend

Reference frame at about six seconds: beer splashing up out of a plastic cup held by a curly-haired spectator in a grey hoodie under white stand stairs, a white football with red patches at the low wall

The reference at the landing, by @downey.ai. Use it to compare framing, not as an Oakgen result.

These are the problems we would expect from the way the template works. We have not measured how often each one happens.

0 to 1.6 seconds: the strike

Look for: the striker running onto the ball in full figure from high above, the strike at about one second and the fall straight after. The outfit should be the one in your striker photo, not a pink bib.

If it is off: a striker who still wears the reference bib, or whose hair changes colour, can come from a cropped or low-light photo. Re-run with a full-body photo in good light.

1.6 to 3.8 seconds: over the bar and the trees

Look for: one ball, clearing the crossbar as the keeper in red looks up, then a small dot over dark trees dropping toward the white stand. The keeper should not have any of your faces.

If it is off: a second ball, a ball that vanishes and reappears, or a keeper who looks like one of your three. This stretch has no role in it, so a photo change will not fix it; run it again as it is.

3.8 to 7.8 seconds: the landing and the kick

Look for: the fan in black, waist-up under the stairs, beer in hand, looking up. The ball lands by the low wall and the grey-hoodie spectator's beer splashes up. The two reach toward each other. The fan in the suit steps in from the left, lifts a knee, kicks at the ball and spills his beer.

If it is off: the fan in black and the fan in the suit swapping faces when they stand side by side at about 7.4 seconds is a flaw to watch for. It can happen when the two photos look alike. Re-run with two clearly different people, or swap one of them for a photo with a different hairstyle or outfit colour. If the grey-hoodie spectator has one of your faces, re-run as it is; he is meant to stay unchanged.

7.8 seconds to the end: the fold

Look for: the fan in the suit alone between the white pillars, grinning with two cups, then a hand to the forehead at about 9.6 seconds and a slow fold over, both cups still in his hands, until the end. This is the punchline, so the face has to hold through the hand and the bend.

If it is off: a face that changes behind the hand, or reappears as someone else after the bend, can come from a side-on or soft photo. Re-run with the sharpest front-facing photo you have in the suit slot. Any sign of injury, such as a red mark, is not in the template; re-run.

Before you post

  • One change per re-run. If you change two photos at once you will not know which one fixed it.
  • Label the video as AI-made and credit @downey.ai for the original reel.
  • Captions, cover frames and where text fits are in caption ideas and credit. For how this clip relates to the classic spilled-beer sports highlight, see ball hits fan's beer.
