Search for an AI bobblehead and you will find at least three different pictures: a toy-like figure of you on its own, a glossy big-headed caricature portrait, and a tiny big-headed you posed in a travel scene. They share an oversized head and a polished finish, which is why the names blur together. This comparison sorts them out and shows where Oakgen's 3D Bobblehead-Style template fits.

The AI bobblehead trend
In April 2025 Tom's Guide published I turned myself into a bobblehead using ChatGPT. The writer took inspiration from the bobbleheads in the Fallout games and tried it during the wave of AI action figures and plush toys of yourself. The article recommends a full-body photo for that prompt method, because the chatbot otherwise guesses the rest of the body. TikTok now gathers similar tutorials under titles such as How to Make A Bobble Head on Chat Gpt. Tool sites use the same wording; PiCraft calls its version an AI Bobblehead Maker and renders a plastic figure on a base.
The 3D caricature trend
On December 1, 2025, Storyboard18 reported a 3D caricature prompt spreading on X, naming creator @ShreyaYadav___ among the first to popularise the look. The look: an exaggerated, glossy caricature with an oversized head, expressive features, soft light and a minimal background. The coverage does not use the word bobblehead and does not put the real person in the picture.
The travel bobblehead format
On June 10, 2026, Picsart's trend blog covered a "Bobblehead" travel caricature shared on TikTok and Reels: a glossy big-headed figure in one signature outfit, standing on a globe among travel cut-outs. It is built for carousels and announcements, and again the real person is not shown beside the figure.
Where the side-by-side portrait comes in
Oakgen's template does something none of the three above does: it keeps you photographic and puts you next to your caricature. You lean casually on an oversized, glossy, toy-like version of yourself with a big stylised head and expressive eyes, sharing your hair, any facial hair and your glasses, with an expression in the same spirit as yours. Both stand on a pale grey seamless backdrop in soft studio light.
We looked for a named trend with exactly that composition and did not find one. A template library lists a similar unnamed real-beside-rendered portrait. So treat this as a version of the wider bobblehead look, not as the origin of any of the trends above. The AI bobblehead trend origin page has the short version.
Which one do you want?
- A figure of you on its own, like a toy on a shelf: that is the chatbot bobblehead or a figure maker.
- A glossy caricature headshot: that is the 3D caricature format.
- A series of travel scenes: that is the travel bobblehead format.
- A single still where people can compare you with your caricature: that is this template. The joke is the comparison, so it works best when your hair, beard or glasses are distinctive.
Whichever you pick, it is a picture. Oakgen's version does not produce a 3D model, an animation or a physical figure.
Getting the side-by-side right
Because both likenesses come from one photo, the upload matters more than it would for a solo caricature. The template asks for a chest-up photo facing the camera, which differs from the full-body advice for chatbot prompts. The selfie guide explains what the caricature borrows from it, and how to make a bobblehead of yourself with AI walks through the steps.
Once it is made, check the arm contact and both likenesses with the big head caricature result checklist. For posting ideas, the 3D caricature caption page has lines that say the image is AI-made, and bobblehead photo ideas covers outfit and expression plans.
Names and trademarks
Fallout is a trademark of its owners and is mentioned only as the Tom's Guide writer's inspiration. Oakgen's template is not connected to any game, toy maker or the creators named above. Describe your result as an AI bobblehead-style portrait.
Frequently asked questions
Where did the AI bobblehead trend start?
There is no single starting post. The earliest coverage we found is an April 2025 Tom's Guide how-to on making a bobblehead of yourself with ChatGPT, inspired by Fallout bobbleheads. A 3D caricature prompt spread on X in late November 2025, and Picsart covered a travel bobblehead format in June 2026.
Does Oakgen's bobblehead trend make a 3D file or a figure?
No. It makes one still image of you leaning on a glossy caricature of yourself. The 3D wording describes how the caricature looks in the picture.
Is there a bobblehead trend song?
None of the sources we checked names a song or sound for these formats.
