The best AI image generator depends on the job. For readable text in images, pick GPT Image 2. For transparent PNGs, GPT Image 2.5. For cheap 4K and very wide banners, Nano Banana 2.1 at 46 credits per 4K image. For a vendor that sells its own models as commercially safe, Adobe Firefly. For editable text layers, Ideogram.
Oakgen prices come from Oakgen's pricing code and the live pricing page, read on October 25, 2026. Midjourney, Adobe and Ideogram facts come from their own pages, read the same day. We did not run a blind quality test, so this is a ranking by documented capability and price, not by how the pictures look.
Which AI image generator is best for each job?
Each row names the job, our first pick, and the runner-up. Oakgen prices are in credits per image at one image per request, as of October 25, 2026.
| Rank | Job | First pick | Why it wins on paper | Price | Runner-up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Text in images, posters, mockups | GPT Image 2 (Oakgen) | Text rendering is its listed lead feature, 32,000-character prompts | 2 (low), 18 (medium), 72 (high) credits, square | Ideogram |
| 2 | Logos, stickers, product cutouts | GPT Image 2.5 Flare or Sunburst (Oakgen) | Background setting with a transparent option | 5 (low), 7 (medium), 21 (high) credits, square | Ideogram |

| 5 | Combining many reference images | GPT Image 2.5 edit or Nano Banana 2.1 edit (Oakgen) | Up to 16 and 14 reference images | 26 with one reference, more per extra reference or mask, and 14 | Nano Banana Pro edit, 10 images |
| 6 | Photoreal scenes | FLUX 2 Max (Oakgen) | Oakgen's catalog describes it for realism and consistency | 24 credits at 4:3, 34 at 1:1 | Nano Banana Pro |
| 7 | High-volume drafts | Grok Imagine Image (Oakgen) | Flat price, ten aspect ratios | 7 credits, 8 for an edit | GPT Image 2 low |
| 8 | Thumbnails and quick tests | Nano Banana 2 (Oakgen) | Only Oakgen model with a 512 px size | 21 at 512, 28 at 1K, 55 at 4K | Grok Imagine Image |
| 9 | A stylized house look | Midjourney (not on Oakgen) | V8.2 is "focused on aesthetics" per Midjourney | From $10 a month | None on Oakgen |
| 10 | Legal-reviewed brand work | Adobe Firefly (not on Oakgen) | Adobe says Firefly model outputs are "safe for commercial use" | From US$9.99 a month | None on Oakgen |
| 11 | Typography you can edit after | Ideogram (not on Oakgen) | Editable Studio text layers | Plus is $20 a month, or $15 billed yearly | GPT Image 2 |
Rows 1 to 8 are models you can run in the Oakgen image generator on one credit balance. Rows 9 to 11 are separate products with their own subscriptions.
How did we rank them?
We started from the job, then asked three questions of each model. Does the model document the capability the job needs? What are its hard limits, such as resolution, aspect ratios and reference image count? What does one image cost at the settings the job needs? When two models tied on the first two questions, the cheaper one ranked higher.
What we did not do matters as much. We did not generate the same prompts on every model and score the results, blind or otherwise. We did not test Midjourney, Firefly or Ideogram at all for this article. Oakgen has a published 100-point protocol for testing AI image edits, but we have not run it across these models, so no row in the table rests on it.
Image quality is partly taste. Run your own prompt on the first pick and the runner-up before you commit.
Which AI image generator is best for text in images?
GPT Image 2 is our first pick. Oakgen's catalog lists text rendering first among its features, and it takes prompts up to 32,000 characters, which is room for a full menu, a label or a slide of copy.
It has three quality levels, and quality drives the price. At a square size, low costs 2 credits, medium 18 and high 72. At the 4:3 and 16:9 sizes, which Oakgen prices at 1536x1024 or 1024x1536, medium drops to 14 and high to 56. High is 36 times the price of low at square, so draft low and finish high.
A worked example. You want a poster for a bakery's opening weekend. Write the exact words in quotes and say where they go:
Vintage screen-printed poster, cream paper, two-color red and navy ink.
Headline at the top in bold condensed serif: "OPEN THIS SATURDAY".
Center: a hand-drawn sourdough loaf with steam lines.
Bottom strip in small caps: "14 MILL STREET · FREE COFFEE UNTIL 10AM".
Four low-quality drafts at square cost 8 credits. If one layout works, a single high-quality render costs 72. The whole poster comes to 80 credits, which is about 36 cents on the Basic plan's credit rate.
Ideogram is the runner-up for a different reason. Its own guide tells you to put the exact words in quotation marks, name the text early in the prompt and keep phrases short, because "each extra word raises the odds of a typo or a dropped letter". It also lets you fix spelling with targeted edits or editable text layers in its Studio. If you expect to correct wording after generation, that workflow is a real advantage over regenerating.
Which AI image generator makes transparent PNGs?
GPT Image 2.5 does. Both Oakgen variants, Flare and Sunburst, have a background setting of auto, opaque or transparent, and both list text rendering as well. That pairing suits logos, stickers, app icons and product cutouts that need to sit on any background.
GPT Image 2.5 has five quality levels. At square, low is 5 credits, medium 7, high 21, xhigh 35 and max 74. Its six size presets top out at 1536x864 for wide and 864x1536 for tall. Oakgen lists Flare and Sunburst with the same options and the same prices. The catalog does not say how their outputs differ, and we have not compared them, so try both on your prompt.
If you already have the image and only need the background gone, Oakgen's background remover costs 3 credits per image.
Ideogram also documents transparent backgrounds, described as "PNGs ready to place on any design".
Which AI image generator makes the best 4K images for the money?
Nano Banana 2.1 is the cheapest 4K option on Oakgen at 46 credits per image. It costs 14 credits at 1K and 20 at 2K. All three Nano Banana models have a 4K option, and the gap between them is price and extras.
| Model on Oakgen | 512 px | 1K | 2K | 4K | Aspect ratios | Extras |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nano Banana 2.1 | No | 14 | 20 | 46 | 15, including 4:1, 1:4, 8:1 and 1:8 | Thinking level (minimal, medium, high), web search at no extra charge |
| Nano Banana 2 | 21 | 28 | 41 | 55 | 10 | Web search adds 5 credits at 1K |
| Nano Banana Pro | No | 51 | 51 | 102 | 11, including auto | Web search adds 5 credits at 1K |
Prices are credits per image, as of October 25, 2026.
Nano Banana 2.1 is also the pick for ultra-wide formats. A website hero strip or a LinkedIn banner at 4:1, or an 8:1 email header, comes out at the right shape without cropping a 16:9 image. An 8:1 header at 2K costs 20 credits.
It also accepts the longest prompts on Oakgen, up to 50,000 characters, against 5,000 for Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2.
If you need a print-size file from a model that tops out lower, upscaling is the other route. Oakgen's image upscaler uses Topaz and costs 28 credits at 2x and 109 at 4x.
Which AI image generator is best when the picture needs real facts?
Nano Banana Pro, with web search turned on. Oakgen describes it as Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image model with web search grounding, and the toggle's help text says it uses Google Search "for context and grounding". That helps when the prompt names a real landmark, a current product or a public event the model might not know.
At 1K it costs 51 credits without search and 56 with it. 4K costs 102 before search. It is the most expensive Nano Banana per image, so use it when grounding or its quality matters and use Nano Banana 2.1 when it does not. Nano Banana 2.1 also has web search, and Oakgen does not charge extra for it on that model. See the Nano Banana Pro model page for its full settings.
Web search grounding helps the model look things up. It does not make the image a photograph of the real thing, so check any logo, label or building detail before you publish.
Which AI image generator handles reference images best?
For combining many images into one, GPT Image 2.5 edit and Nano Banana 2.1 edit take the most inputs on Oakgen.
| Edit model on Oakgen | Max reference images | Mask input | Price at default settings |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2.5 Flare or Sunburst edit | 16 | Yes | 26 credits with one reference |
| Nano Banana 2.1 edit | 14 | No | 14 credits |
| Nano Banana Pro edit | 10 | No | 51 credits |
| Nano Banana 2 edit | 10 | No | 28 credits |
| FLUX 2 Max edit | 5 | No | 24 credits |
| GPT Image 2 edit | 4 | Yes | 72 credits |
| Grok Imagine Image edit | 1 | No | 8 credits |
GPT Image 2.5 edit is the only model here priced by its inputs. Each reference image adds a charge, and a mask counts as one more. At the default high quality and square size, one reference costs 26 credits, two cost 32 and 16 cost 107.
A mask lets you mark the exact area to change. That matters when the rest of the image must stay untouched, such as recoloring a jacket without touching the face. GPT Image 2 edit defaults to high quality, which is why its default price is the highest here.
You can also mix models. Draft a product scene on Grok Imagine Image for 7 credits, then place your real product photo into it with Nano Banana 2.1 edit for 14.
Which AI image generator is best for photoreal images?
FLUX 2 Max is our first pick, with a caveat. Oakgen's catalog describes Black Forest Labs' model as built for "exceptional realism, precision, and consistency". That is the catalog's description, and we have not checked it against the other models in a side-by-side test.
Oakgen prices FLUX 2 Max per megapixel. Its four non-square presets (4:3, 3:4, 16:9 and 9:16) cost 24 credits, and 1:1 costs 34, because a 1024x1024 square crosses the one-megapixel mark and adds a second megapixel charge. If square is not required, 4:3 is the better buy. Prompts are capped at 3,500 characters.
Nano Banana Pro is the runner-up because it has a 4K option, and Oakgen's FLUX 2 Max presets do not list one.
Which AI image generator is cheapest for drafts?
GPT Image 2 at low quality, at 2 credits per image. Grok Imagine Image is next at a flat 7 credits with no quality setting to manage.
Here is what one Basic plan month of 2,000 credits buys at single-image prices, as of October 25, 2026:
| Model and setting | Credits per image | Images from 2,000 credits |
|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2, low, square | 2 | 1,000 |
| Grok Imagine Image | 7 | 285 |
| Nano Banana 2.1, 1K | 14 | 142 |
| FLUX 2 Max, 4:3 | 24 | 83 |
| Nano Banana Pro, 1K | 51 | 39 |
| GPT Image 2, high, square | 72 | 27 |
Grok Imagine Image offers ten aspect ratios, from 2:1 and 20:9 wide to 1:2 tall. Oakgen's catalog does not list its output resolution, so check the file size before you plan to print from it.
On Oakgen's monthly plans, a credit costs between about $0.0025 on Creator ($99 for 40,000 credits) and $0.0045 on Basic ($9 for 2,000), as of October 25, 2026. Paid subscribers can buy extra credits at 180 per dollar. The live pricing page has current plans, and plan prices can change.
How do Midjourney, Adobe Firefly and Ideogram compare?
None of the three run on Oakgen. Each is a separate subscription with its own app.
| Tool | Entry paid plan | Higher plans | Free plan | Points to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Midjourney | Basic, $10 a month or $96 a year | Standard $30, Pro $60, Mega $120 a month | Not listed on the plans page | Stealth Mode (private images) only on Pro and Mega |
| Adobe Firefly | Standard, US$9.99 a month, 2,000 generative credits | Pro US$19.99, Pro Plus US$49.99, Premium US$199.99 | Yes, limited daily generations | Paid plans include unlimited standard image generations |
| Ideogram | Plus, $20 a month or $15 a month billed yearly, 2,400 credits | Pro $60 a month, Team $30 per user | 30 credits a week, outputs public | Free credits only for Google, Apple or Microsoft sign-ins |
All prices from each vendor's own pages, read October 25, 2026.
Midjourney. Its version page says V8.2 became the default on July 24, 2026, and is "focused on aesthetics, image quality, and Personalization". Its plans page lists 3.3 hours of fast GPU time a month on Basic, and unlimited Relax mode image generation only from Standard up. Its commercial use page says you own what you create, but a company grossing more than $1,000,000 a year needs the Pro or Mega plan to use images commercially.
Adobe Firefly. Adobe's plans page says "Outputs from Adobe Firefly AI models are safe for commercial use" and that the models are trained on licensed and public domain content. Two conditions sit next to that line. You are responsible for checking content from the partner models inside Firefly, which include Google, OpenAI and Flux models. IP indemnification is for eligible enterprise customers only. Adobe also says generative credits reset each billing cycle and do not roll over.
Ideogram. Ideogram's docs cover text in images, transparent backgrounds, editable text layers, batch runs of up to 500 prompts from one spreadsheet, and custom models trained on your brand. Its plans page says private generation needs a paid plan, and it no longer sells the old Basic plan.
When should you use something other than Oakgen?
Oakgen is a poor fit in at least five cases.
You want to start for free. Oakgen gives no signup credits, as of October 25, 2026. Adobe Firefly has a free plan with limited daily generations, and Ideogram gives 30 credits a week to free accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft.
Your legal team needs an indemnity. Oakgen does not offer one. Under section 4.4 of our Terms, Oakgen does not claim ownership of your inputs or eligible outputs, but your right to use an output depends on the Terms, the law, the model provider's terms and the rights you hold in what you put in. Oakgen does not guarantee an output is cleared for a particular use. Adobe offers IP indemnification to eligible enterprise customers for select Firefly outputs.
You want the Midjourney look. Midjourney's models and its Personalization profiles are not available on Oakgen. If your brand already depends on that style, stay with Midjourney.
You fix wording after generation. Ideogram's editable text layers let you change a word without regenerating the image. On Oakgen you would rerun the prompt or use an edit model with a mask.
You live in Photoshop. Adobe's Firefly Pro plan bundles Photoshop on web and mobile and Adobe Express, according to its plans page. If your finishing work happens there, keeping generation inside Adobe saves export steps.
Oakgen fits best when you want several model families on one balance, want to switch models per job instead of per subscription, and want credits that roll over while your plan is active.
How we checked this
We read Oakgen's image model catalog and pricing code on October 25, 2026, and computed each credit price with the same functions the app uses to quote a generation. We checked plan prices against the live Oakgen pricing page and the plan catalog on the same day. We read section 4.4 of Oakgen's Terms of Use for the commercial use wording.
Competitor facts come from Midjourney's plans, commercial use and version pages, Adobe's Firefly plans page and Ideogram's plans and documentation pages, all read on October 25, 2026.
We did not generate or compare images for this article, and we did not use Midjourney, Firefly or Ideogram. Prices change, and the Oakgen generator shows the exact credit cost before you run a prompt.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI image generator in 2026?
There is no single best one. It depends on the job. For readable text in images, GPT Image 2 is our first pick. For transparent PNGs, GPT Image 2.5. For cheap 4K and very wide banners, Nano Banana 2.1. For images that need real-world facts, Nano Banana Pro with web search. For a vendor that says its own models are safe for commercial use, Adobe Firefly. For a dedicated typography workflow with editable text layers, Ideogram. This ranking is based on documented features and prices as of October 25, 2026, not on a blind quality test.
What is the cheapest AI image generator on Oakgen?
As of October 25, 2026, GPT Image 2 at low quality costs 2 credits per image, Grok Imagine Image costs 7 credits, and Nano Banana 2.1 at 1K costs 14 credits. On Oakgen's monthly plans a credit is worth between about $0.0025 (Creator, $99 for 40,000 credits) and $0.0045 (Basic, $9 for 2,000 credits), so a 7-credit image costs about 2 to 3 cents of plan credits. Plan prices can change, so check the pricing page.
Does Oakgen have a free plan for image generation?
No. Oakgen gives no signup credits as of October 25, 2026, and image generation spends credits from a paid plan. If you want to start free, Adobe Firefly lists a free plan with limited daily generations, and Ideogram gives 30 credits a week to free accounts that sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft. Ideogram says everything made on its free plan is public.
Can I use Oakgen images commercially?
Oakgen does not claim ownership of your inputs or eligible outputs. Under section 4.4 of Oakgen's Terms, your right to use an output, including commercially, depends on following the Terms, the law, the terms of the model provider used, and the rights you hold in anything you put in, such as logos, likenesses or reference photos. Oakgen does not guarantee that an output is original or cleared for a specific use, and it does not offer an IP indemnity.
Do unused Oakgen credits expire at the end of the month?
Oakgen's pricing page, read on October 25, 2026, says unused credits roll over to the next month as long as your subscription stays active, including add-on credits. Adobe's Firefly plans page says Firefly generative credits reset each billing cycle and do not roll over.
Did Oakgen run a blind quality test for this ranking?
No. We did not run the models side by side or score their outputs for this article. The ranking matches each job to the features each model documents, then breaks ties on price. Treat it as a shortlist and run your own prompt through the top two picks before you commit.
